Classic American Beef Goulash

Classic American Beef Goulash is a hearty and comforting one-pot meal made with seasoned ground beef, tender elbow macaroni, tomatoes, onions, and green bell peppers. Everything simmers together in a rich, savory tomato sauce, creating a simple and satisfying dinner that is perfect for busy weeknights and family meals.

Ingredients:

1 lb (450 g) ground beef

2 cups elbow macaroni

1 medium onion, finely diced

1 green bell pepper, diced

3 garlic cloves, minced

1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes

1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce

2 cups beef broth

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1 teaspoon paprika

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, optional

Instructions

Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the ground beef, onion, and green bell pepper. Cook until the beef is browned and the vegetables are tender. Drain any excess grease if necessary.

Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, stirring continuously.

Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil.

Add the elbow macaroni and reduce the heat. Cover and simmer for 12–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is tender and cooked through.

Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed. If using cheddar cheese, stir it into the hot goulash until completely melted.

Serve warm and enjoy.

Storage

Let the leftovers cool completely before transferring them to an airtight container. Refrigerate for up to 3–4 days. To reheat, warm gently on the stovetop or in the microwave. Add a small splash of beef broth if the goulash becomes too thick.

Recipe Tips

For the best texture, avoid overcooking the macaroni. Stir the pasta occasionally while it simmers to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pot. You can also adjust the amount of broth slightly depending on how saucy you prefer your goulash.
